Using Outdoor String Lights With Trellis

Outdoor String Lights

Perhaps you have trellis around your deck, patio or garden perimeter?  This creates a beautiful frame for climbing plants of all varieties. Ivy, creepers, jasmine, honeysuckle, roses and clematis all enjoy twining all over trellis!

Most people look no further than that where trellis is concerned and cannot see the potential of lighting such structures. Around a decking area, with outdoor string lights, you can create a quiet haven of tranquility or perhaps a busy colorful party setting.  With some background music, strategically placed individual solar lights dotted around the garden and your trellis aglow, it would be a party to remember!

Adding outdoor string lights couldn’t be simpler. Firstly decide whether you wish to have mains powered or solar powered. Solar powered are obviously going to be free to run, but the light does tail off a little in terms of performance during the autumn in the more Northern areas. If you want to sparkle all year round, it is best to opt for mains power.

Solar light is much easier to set up as there is no connection required. LED lights are strong, weatherproof and very hardwearing. Using only a fraction of conventional bulbs power. For this reason they are used widely in solar pwered lighing. Whichever type you choose ensure you buy enough length to do the task properly. Roughly calculate the height plus the width of the trellis and multiply by 3.  Buy the nearest size to that total.  You may find it too costly to install outdoor string lights on several sections of trellis, so  start with one central panel and add to this later as finances allow.

Some LED mains powered outdoor string lights are joinable, which is a useful feature for expanding your light features later on. Solar ones are all separate anyway with their own solar panel.  So now, you have your outdoor string lights and can start to put them up. You can either weave them in and out wherever you like on the trellis or attach some little rustproof hooks to attach them to. Remember they are there and be careful when you prune your plants in the future.

Easy, effective and especially pretty when you have outdoor string lights in soft pink, yellow or blue shades. With functions that twinkle gently this is a wonderful restful effect on a summers evening… enjoy!

Does an Outdoor Ceiling Fan Provide Adequate Lighting?

By Mike Selvon
If you are fortunate enough to live in a warm climate but you find the heat is a little too much to handle on some days, then consider installing an outdoor ceiling fan in your open-air rooms.
